Ok, ok. I haven’t posted on this blog site in almost 2 years. Guilty as charged. The thing is, I’ve been so busy with work and life things that I haven’t had time, and honestly, I haven’t had the urge either. That said, I’m ready to start again. The only problem is that I don’t know where to begin…
Reading life in the last, say… year, has been divided into a few categories:
- Genre study titles – In our library we’ve embarked on a project to become very well-versed in different genres. Last fall, it was mysteries, and currently, we’re doing thrillers. This summer, we’re reading romance, which should be interesting, to say the least. I really love this exercise, mostly because it opens doors. I’ve discovered so many authors to pursue and also dispelled many notions I had about others (for better or for worse). My students, bound to a mini version of this study for class, also found it useful. Actually, this is a post in itself, and one which I promise to take up soon.
- Hot New Books – To keep current with the latest titles, I’ve been ripping through new releases that I should read because they’re hot, not necessarily because I want to (notice a theme going on here?). It’s a different approach to books, at least for me. Good thing is I can talk the talk about what people are reading. Bad thing is, some aren’t so fantastic.
- YA books – This may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but Young Adult books are a fab place to fish for amazing reads. I adored – nay, ADORED – the Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins, not to mention her latest Hunger Games, which was riveting. I admit to being sucked in by the whole vampire Twilight + wannabe books, but it’s certainly not for everyone.
- My books – I do manage to squeeze in a few titles just for me, but not as many as I’d like.
I have a few book posts on my library’s website (www.elcslpl.org), so I haven’t been as delinquent as it first appears. Needless to say, my book obsession hasn’t dampened, nor have I stopped reading. In 2008 the 200 book goal was achieved, with 30 minutes to spare.
Stay tuned…. TLG is back.
